The Anticipated Update!

Holy cow, this is taking longer than expected!! Admittedly, this has been an ambitious debut title. But get this: the end is in sight.

The Eastern Shore... what demon lurks amid these pines?

The gameplay feels great, even as I've spent years playtesting every feature.

For example, an emphasis has been placed on parries.  I don't think any other turn-based rpg is doing this, but if you play your cards right, you can win most battles without taking damage from enemies. There are very viable gameplay styles centered around siting at extremely low health. This is difficult, mind you, so expect to die frequently as you learn the ropes. This feels awesome, and I can't wait to show you guys what I've been working so hard on.

The UI is as intuitive as it's even been. I've been studying the compositional and cognitive principles that go into making menus "work" for people. I see this as extremely important in developing a turn-based RPG, because of their reliance on windows to deliver most information.

Also, I have implemented a unique posture system which makes for highly engaging combat. You will usually be working toward breaking enemy posture to take advantage of a short window where enemies are weakened. You can take this moment to charge for an ultimate ability, or perhaps to heal and regain your footing.

Perhaps most importantly, I've downscaled to ensure completion.

Certain features, for example the "ask" system, have been simplified for pacing reasons. Playtesters were almost unanimously engaging with every NPC whenever they found a new keyword, and that wasn't the intended experience.  This has relieved a lot of game development effort, and perplexingly has allowed me to write more fulfilling NPC interactions.

Additionally, to make each lunar phase as content-rich as possible, I have condensed from 7 to 3 phases.  To accommodate this, the respawn system has been replaced by a more conventional "soulslike" one, with automatically refilling healing items. (For those not in-the-know, this was previously a punishing system where death caused progression of a lunar phase)

You can only get to this area on the full moon and further.

Finally, the customization in gameplay styles has been relocated mostly from weapons to tarot cards. These are a unique feature to Throne, where you can functionally change your class on the fly. There are 21 of these cards to discover, each with their own passive abilities and ultimate skills. Some cause complete transformations, given the right  conditions. There is still equipment that gives you unique skills, but it's mostly offhand weapons now.

Thanks for your interest! It's so motivating to me that people are still anticipating the release of Throne.
